Altea is one of the most charming towns to be found on Spains 'White Coast' located in the region of Alicante on the Costa Blanca North. The town is just 11 km north of Benidorm, yet the two resorts are very different. Altea is similar to other Costa Blanca towns with a new and an old neighbourhood. The old section is perched on top of a hill with spectacular views. It is a great atmospheric meeting place at all times of the day. A stroll up to the local Blue Domed Church is always a popular activity during the day and evening.

The name Altea derives from the Moors who conquered the region and named it Althaya, meaning health to all.

The weekly open-air Tuesday market is very popular with visitors and locals. selling a multitude of products ranging from shoes, handbags, jewellery to fresh produce.
The ascent to the old section along steep slopes and stepped streets reveals a broad horizon at every turn and extends along the entire La Marina region. The silhouette of the Peñon de Ifach on one side and the Helade range on the other, frame the view of the sea.
Altea is proud of its International cuisine and is available in all restaurants, there is a large variety to choose from. Traditional Spanish fayre can be found in the beach areas, wonderful Paellas, sardines, prawns etc.
